R.S.V.P.........

Birthday R.S.V.P to my best friend
After receiving a really cool and funny invite for a friends birthday party, I could not resist sending something funny back. So I came up with this little creation which I knew she would find amusing. Her nick name is Ducky therefore everything I send her needs a little duck on it!!

Water affected photography

When using photography many people will take the picture then change or touch up the image in a programme like photoshop. However I wanted to created a distorted look to this photo and decided to see if water would damage the photo, whilst doing this I found that when taking pictures when the water is moving creating bubble, swirls and waves, you are able to capture something quite unique. When you look closely at these images you can see that area's of the face have been enlarged. Some area's have become blurred making the image much more mysterious. I used one of the images to create a book cover for The Drowned World by J.G Ballard and felt that this allowed the book cover to become a piece from the story.

Beach Patterns

Ok so I know what your thinking beach theme?? But as I walked along Eastbourne beach and stopped underneath the pier, I realised that looking through the frame work was really interesting, creating different shapes and thickness of lines I could not help but snap away. From the photographs I took I designed many patterns, the three above are my favorite and would love to get them digitally printed onto silk, as I feel it would be interesting to see such a structured pattern on a free flowing soft material.

Stamp Design

I was given a project to design a collection of stamps that would encourage people to use stamps as well as add another stamp to a collection. Personally I felt that with the way the mail is today, having to buy stamps for different size envelopes, it make postings item so much more confusing. Therefore I came up with a plan! I decided that the stamp would be stickers of coins and all you have to do is add the desired amount to the envelope or package and send it. Simple! The stamps would come with a booklet containing the amount to post certain sizes and weights, then all there is left for you to do is add the amount to the envelop, plus there is no more reasons to hold 1st class and 2nd class stamps as its all about the amount you add to your postage.

My Kimono in exhibition.

These are some quick pictures I took whilst the kimono was in exhibition. I managed to get the manikin body adapted so I was able to show the sleeve's. The kimono was a success and got a lot of attention with people asking all sorts of questions.

Self Portraits

A small project to create a self portrait. I could not decide on one look to portray therefore I decided to create many images based on myself from collage. I felt that I was too much of one person to be in just one image!

Final Major Project

Surface Pattern Design

Rational
To this day a Kimono is one of the worlds most recognised traditional garments, a Kimono could show the status of the wearer, for example, long sleeves would indicate an unmarried girl and the length of the Kimono would indicate the age of the wearer . The colours and patterns on the kimono were symbolic of the seasons and the occasion that was to be attended.
I have created a Kimono with my own symbolic pattern design, which is a self-expression of the journey of my life so far.
After researching into artists and illustrators such as James Wignall and designer’s Aya Morrison and Morie Yamada, who create bold colorful imagery and patterns, I was able to begin to collect imagery that influences my work, for example my collection of train tickets and photos of my possessions.
Next, I created a motif made from one pair of my old shoes and one new pair to show the past to the present. There is a string of pearls falling from top to bottom to symbolise the pearls of wisdom which you receive throughout life, and a line of chains hanging down to the heel of the shoe to suggest that the present has a link to the past.
There are large illustrations across the Kimono of important possessions I own, such as a Martini Glass, a bicycle and my headphones. The background consists of large train tickets to indicate the concept of travel, and a repeat pattern of pressed flowers in green and pink which are the colours of power and love.
